Excellent post... both for the tongue-in-cheek satire and some very good points. PvE is supposed to help prepare you for PvP... except that ANet takes WAY too long to get around to this. Aurora Glade and the ascension missions are great examples of this, but they came far too late in the game. By the time you get to them, most PvEers have already fallen into the "2 war, 2 monk, 2 nuke" party mode that simply tries to smash their way through everything. Not only is this extremely boring, but it leaves half the classes sitting helplessly on the sideline.

I love PvE, but I would love to see it become more challenging and more reflective of actual party combat. No one goes to the Tombs with a group of 4 warriors and a necro, but you'll see mobs like that in the game all the time. Have the mobs make sense. Make them be coherant TEAMS (like the player groups are SUPPOSED to be).

Oh... and balance Nature's Renewal while you're at it. :P

EDIT: I understand quite well what exactly the OP is getting at. Regardless, PvE is so brainless that it could use some challenge... especially if it gets the other 3 classes off the bench and into the game.

Um..the number of people who apparently don't understand this post is somewhat alarming...

Besides, I've got a perfect solution. If any PvE group beats Blackace's group the last monster in the group drops a super amazing, insanely awesome looking glowing sword that has has the stats 1-2 damage, -15% damage while in a stance, and -20 armor when equipped. But hey, who cares? It'll look so cool that everyone will be constantly trying to beat the AI group.

PvE is not supposed to train for PvP, that has never been implied.

What I want to know is why would someone who is on the inside(blackace) and knows what is going on, so to speak, not keep quite and let the masses fester. It's not his job nor any other Alphas to tell people what is being worked on by A.net. As with any money making business they have an agenda that spells out what they are allowed to tell the public and what not to, but then again it seems everyone forgets it's not a bright idea to tell the public what you're working on, unless you don't care if the competition steals your idea and beats you to market first.

I must say though he's great at sarcasm, and I don't know why I'm wasting my time replying to this thread.

Lonedust...mobs that run away when losing? C'mon dude! Do you know how many farmers would revolt? ALOT!

I want to find a portal that can take me back to pre-searing. I have to take revenge on that bandit firestarter who killed my baby ELMO. Don't destroy pre-sear yet.....noooooooo!

I think they need to make Markis mimic a real life arena Ranger. He needs Escape, Dodge, Storm Chaser, Whirling Defense, and Troll Unguent. He should also mimic a typical arena match by simply running in circles around the entire map - I mean, c'mon, the map is practically made for it! It would teach players a valuable lesson about snaring and griefing.

Also, the final boss should not be a Necromancer, but a 55 health Protective Bond Monk with Mending, Watchful Spirit, Healing Breeze, and a bunch of spammed enchantments. This will teach the obnoxious "you're just lazy" PvE crowd to shut the hell up and run Nature's Renewal.

Peace,
-CxE

Just to be devils advocate, Keep Pre searing as is, alter the rest of the PvE so it is more in line with it, Pre searing does give false hopes to new players. It gives the impression that you can explore freely without having an army of back up and that you don't always need a party. Add scaling spawns which adjust dynamically to how many are in your group and adjust the loot acordingly. Make it so rare's are extremely rare when alone without a group, but more common when with a human group.
To hell with PvP, PvP is suposed to be fun not the be all and end all of guild wars, but you will never satisfy the PvP'ers as there will always be that build that owns till they find away around it. Leave it so to get good at PvP you have to play PvP. PvE should never be a training group for PvP unless you really do want to lose over 50% of your players instantly. The majority enjoy PvP but only a few live for it.
Add more quests to the PvE even if they are only fedex quest like in pre searing, give people a reason to explore and adventure like there is in pre searing.
Making PvE harder will not make player better at PvP, it will only frustrate the main bread and butter of there gaming community, that is the casual gamer.
The hardcore gamer will pay monthly and this game is not upto scratch to afford that in its current state. Cater to the masses, earn more subscriptions and keep guild wars alive for the next 5-6 years.
A great many people do get stuck on the harder missions, but that does not give anyother gamer more right to play guild wars, or even make them a better person because they can do it, people with that attitude are the real anti social gamers who spoil the fun for the rest.
Infact if you make it to hard you lose more players than you gain, with the difficulty as it stands on the later ascention missions does already cause people to shelve Guild wars in the good while it lasted section of there gaming shelves.
A.net need the majority of player, not the minority and that will be they way it is, as it is with every single commerical project.
You only ever make money for the minority unless the minority you are targeting is the rich. Guild wars is not a Lotus, it is far more main stream.

This game was designed to be PvP. Or at least that's what was said in most articles I read during the betas. Why wouldn't you be interested in PvP anyways ? Firestorm + Lava Font + Fireball beats the PvE part of the game, whoooo ! quite the challenge there.

Well I guess you're right, go to the alpha forums and tell them how to fix the game. Oh right the devs don't care, be sure to meet the all-call for testing Sorrow's Furnace and the PvE segement of Chapter 2 though.

Why do you all say its PVP Training. Its just PVE. Its not training. Even if that is what the Devs wanted. It doesn't change the fact, sthat some people dislike PvP, and are just here to play PvE.

Which is why I'm not running Firestorm + Lava Font + Fireball. Simple, eh?

Actually if I remember what was said about the game prior to its release... Guild Wars was SUPPOSED to be PvP focused. This was supposed to be primarily a PvP experience, with all the other aspects being secondary. Perhaps I'm remembering wrong though.

PvE needs a kickstart. It's just mindless hulksmashing. Might as well play those old text-muds if all you want to do is /1000 'cast fireball monster.'

I want to see mobs constantly call you 'noob' while running in circles around the map poking you with a poison arrow ever so often.

I also want to see mobs running the suicide necro build. Have them strap on death nova, and run in and explode with EoE around.. just to spice things up. It'll teach people a thing or two about just sitting there.

I didnt break the NDA. The notion that I used of PvE preparing players for PvP goes a long way back to old interviews with Anet when they said mobs would reflect trends in PvP, dynamic PvE changes, and very old TGH discussions of making PvE challenging. I combined it with the current broken PvP environment for laughs. I still have more stuff I want to add to the original post(when you lose the mission the Ranger says go farm more faction n00b, the El/Mo does nothing but spam racial stereotypes, and there's always a gank Mesmer/Necro waiting to assasinate any important NPC with you)

BTW I'm no longer on the inside since I've been kicked from alpha, but like I said I havent broken any NDA.

Also, a group of ranger mobs that stand all next to each other, cast a billion rituals, and spam Unguent and Healing Spring. That's a strong offensive build right there.

Bosses should leave the game.

Player: "Must get Barrage..."
Player: "Ok, Markis is dead, hit SoC..."
Markis has left the game.
Player: "SHIT."

I also want the mobs to yell ''Ok everyone gang up on korea'' even if there isn't a korean in the instance (yea I've seen it happen in tombs)

I also want the Seer to tell you ''Press Alt-F4 for infused armor'' even though the joke is got old 2 weeks after release.

That maybe so, or it maybe PR, but the simple fact is to keep the game alive they need PvE, and they need PvE players. Also in a not so long ago post,
Quote:
Obviously there is a concern that several top PvP-focus guilds have stopped playing. Their desires for the game (typically UAS) tend towards the extreme solutions that we are unlikely to implement. One of our goals for Guild Wars is to make sure that a Role Playing character can be brought into PvP and compete with PvP characters. A UAS option cuts into this goal significantly. On the other hand, it is clear that amongst the top few % of GW's competitive guilds there is an apparent need for (near-)fully unlocked accounts.
original post

Take from Alex Weeks post about PvP. This clearly states that the PvE, roleplay side of the game is just as important as the PvP arena side of the game, in fact one of their main goals is to develop and enhance this side of the game so that people will later PvP.
